back up lights 200

So I was able to put 2 new wire leads on the back up light switch on a manual 1988 244. Not that easy, but I dropped the transmission cross member while supporting the tranny with a floor jack and it gave me enough room to slip the female terminals on. Now I have to tie these 2 wires into the 2 wires going to the lights. Does it matter which wire goes to which?
