1994 In Tank Fuel Sender 900

Hello. 1994 non turbo 940 sedan. My fuel gauge has been acting erratically for 2 weeks now. Reads much higher then actual fuel amount. Sometimes starts off correct then slowly rises to 3 times what it should read.

I have determined problem is in the intank fuel sender assembly. Seems that pump(mine is working fine)and fuel level sender are all one assembly and are not obtainable seperately. Very very pricey(aprox. $500 !)assembly !

Any alternatives, work arounds, substitute parts, suggestions ??
