Tackling fuel pump main - tips? 700

I've got whirring wheezing sound from car. Can't hear it from engine bay. Seems to be main fuel pump under driver's seat.

If it is that, I know some diagnosis is in order. But if it is, what skill level is it? I'm not used to handling fuel in my repairs. I've read FAQs on replacement. Seems like proper wrenches are essential and should expect rusty, tough nuts/connections. Any other extra small parts needed that should replaced or might break?

Car is running very well at moment. MPG is a tad down, below usual 16-17 (I know horrible, but LH 2.2 is inefficient, there is a reason 2.4 and 3.1 was created...)

Thanks
