240 problems 200 1989

240 Update

It's been a while but I have resolved some issues on my 240. The whining in the engine bay was the alternator; it was repaired. Fuel filter was clogged which was causing the fuel pump to strain a bit. The in tank pump is working just fine. Cleaned out the flame trap--eliminated the "gas smell" which was really an burnt oil smell. I changed the transmission fluid and it shifts pretty nice now, however there is a whirring or whining when in first gear. Still working on the scraping sound. Thank you for all of your help. I'm just beginning to learn how to work on this car and its been a blast mainly because the BB has been so informative and helpful.
