the easiest and very first thing you should check is the the snorkle that goes between the AirMassMeter and the throttle body. the accordian like ribs can crack. if it's cracked it will allow unmetered air to enter. also the cracks can open and close as the engine moves as different speeds...like when it shakes at idle just before it stalls.

take it off an shine a light inside and look for cracks or holes worn thru the ribs.
