OK, I only drive Volvos, I only own Volvos. I like the style, I like the quality, I like the versatility, I like the way it feels. Also, with the help of BB, I repair my own Volvos. This has been the way of it for my entire adult life.
I also like antique furniture (my same addiction to quality and style), but getting big stuff inside the generous cargo area car is not always possible.
Most seriously, as I continue to improve my woodworking skills and tools, I'm coming to the realization that I'm pushing the limit of what I can haul in my 940.
It's difficult to haul home lumber and heavy tools in my 940 wagon. 6ft lumber barely fits behind the front seats. 8ft lumber means I have to watch out for my radio and shifter when I brake. 10-12ftLonger gets tied to the roof, and I've yet to try 16ft, but need to in the spring. Strapping 4x8 plywood and drywall to the roof sorta works. My overload springs also help me haul bricks and rocks and the like, but it's always a question whether I'm at the limit of what I can and should do with this car.
I think I need a truck. I want a Volvo truck, but Volvo didn't make a truck. I know there are some 240 conversions and a really rare 544 truck.
I don't want to learn the mechanics of something new, because that robs me of woodworking time - which is already in balance between my day job and my family and my house.
What do folks in Sweden drive when they need a truck? What do folk recommend for a truck when you are a Volvo-only person that needs a truck?
