Truck Thoughts?

Pickup trucks are real nice, especially if it has a long bed. Used trucks are hard to find without serious rust issues.

But, if you are going to haul 16 footers, forget a truck. That's 10 feet longer than the bed. If course, a ladder rack could solve that.

A truck is going to need to park somewhere when not used, and insurance isn't that cheap.

I would go for a trailer. Then build a device to tip the trailer on its side when not being used, saving on parking space. A good heavy duty tarp is better than an enclosed trailer. But do get a lock for the hitch pin! People actually steal those things.

It takes a while to get used to pulling a 12 ft long trailer that is 7 feet wide, but you get used to using the mirrors real fast.

If, on the other hand, you spend a lot of time cruising garage sales and the like, you do not want to pull a trailer and then try to park it. A VW bus or Combi has 5 feet of width and lots of room behind the front seats, just like a large pickup truck, but without the AC and heat.

My dad always drove a 6 cyl Ford 150 RWD pickup. It did everything! The mpg was decent, and the straight 6 was easy to work on. The clutch lasted forever.
