960 Heater Hose Routing 900 1996

I replaced the head on my '96 960 last summer and I'm only getting marginal heat this winter, so I'm wondering if I correctly re-attached the heater hoses. I know the heater core input should be on the bottom and return on top, but which engine side connection (the one closest to passenger side or closest to the engine) should go to the supply (heater valve)?
