has this ever happened to anyone? 200

a 240 5 speed wagon has come my way with a problem which is worthy of click and clack radio program.

1. within the past month a good used 5 speed box was obtained from a reputable shop and installed in this wagon along with a brand new clutch

2. the car drove and shifted just fine

3. a week or so ago the car was idling in the driveway with the owner and his friend trying to ascertain and fix a higher than normal idle.

4. the friends large dog was in the car and as dogs do got rambunctious and caused the shifter to engage into one of the gears where upon the car stalled out.

5. no the dog did not use the clutch before engaging the shifter........LOL

6. the car now starts just fine but the shifter won't move and appears to be stuck in 4th.

7. the owner has quit on this car and it has come to me

ideas? as to what occured?
