There is an antenna amplifier mounted under the trim, just below where it connects to the driver side cargo area window antenna. If these go bad or have a bad connection AM reception will be impaired. I don't know if there is a way to test the amplifier. It is a little grey plastic box and has a snap to connect to the window. Maybe someone on Brickboard knows how to test these.
