Outside Temperature Gauge 900 1994

Dear 94 945T,

Hope you're well. As 93-95 940s are pre-wired for the external termperature sensor, you need only the sensor itself. That is mounted under the bumper, on the driver's side of the car (North American models).

At the end of sensor wiring harness on your car, there's a plastic plug, which should have kept the harness connector corrosion-free. If not, clean the contacts with an aerosol corrosion-remover or use fine steel wool.

The temperature sensor "head" is round and made of black plastic. It is held in place by cable ties. The sensor head may be "corrosion bonded" to the donor car's wiring harness. If the sensor head does not come free - presuming the donor car is at a salvage yard - cut the wiring harness, to remove the sensor head.

With the sensor head pointing upwards, spray a penetrating oil - e.g., PB Blaster - into the connector area and let it sit for a couple of days. During that time, add more penetrating oil. The oil slowly works its way through micro-channels in the corrosion. That weakens the corrosion bond.

To help break the corrosion bond, rock the sensor head from side to side, while holding firmly the wiring connector's housing. It may not feel as if it is moving. But that energy will slowly, slowly, break the corrosion bond and the sensor head will come free from the harness.

Clean the contacts on the sensor head. Give them a light coating of di-electric grease (tune-up grease) and press the sensor head into your car's wiring harness connector. Use cable ties to secure the sensor head to the under-side of the bumper.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Hope this helps.
