Driver's seatbelt won't unlatch -- what are the tricks to release it? 900

1994 940 Turbo -- the driver's seatbelt latching/unlatching has become difficult recently, so last week I put some oil into the latch/receiver and that seemed to help. Yesterday though it refused to come unlatched no matter how hard I press on the red release tab. I now intend to replace the latch however --
Are there any good ways of separating the latch and the belt buckle? Without a method my options seem to be unbolting and disconnecting the latch from the car, extending the belt and performing surgery on it with dremel, hammer, screwdriver, etc. I'd rather not go that route ...

Thanks,

Rob
