check engine light, what parts to throw at the problem? 900 1995

1995 945, NA. 140k miles

I've had a check engine light for the past few weeks. Additional symptoms are that the car is relatively slow to start in cold weather, service light comes on while engine is warming up, idle wiggles +/-200 rpm when just started, vey poor mileage (15mpg) around town this winter, and occasional smell of gas at stoplights.

New this winter, Battery & sparkplugs.

Given the lack of OBD2, no mechanic in town will even look at the car. I've tried the "flashing light" diagnostics, and the results were unintelligible. I have a multimeter.

So, all this said, throwing parts at the 19yo car seems like the cheapest and easiest option right now. Off the top of my head I was thinking engine temp sensor (underneath the intake) and O2 sensor would be easiest first items.

While I have the intake manifold off, what other cheap and easy things should I do?

thanks.
