Windshield questions 200

I posted yesterday about a water leak, and I came to the conclusion the problem lies with the windshield seal, or in this case a lack of.

I have contacted a few glass folks in my area, and they are able to replace the glass, sans seal. I have an '88 but have told them I have a '92 with the intention of getting the later model updated assembly with integrated trim.

Now, I thought the glass was glued into place, so where they get the "without seal" part of their quote, I have no idea.

So, here is the meat of this inquiry I pose to you all.....IPD sells this seal for 91 and on 240 models -

Is it possible to remove my '88 windshield trim, seal the leak, and then install this gasket, in essence ending up with the later model install? Is this part the trim around the later glass, or is it truly a gasket? Were the 91 and up 240s a gasketed window, or were they glued in as well?

Thanks for the education.

Aaron
