Please tell me your clutch pedal failure stories

Hello Brickboarders,

I need your help and your stories.

I have a new customer that brought me a 1964 Volvo 122 station wagon and they are threatening me with serious litigation over a clutch problem.

The car had sat for a while, how long I do not know, but the car is in beautiful cosmetic condition inside and out.

Upon inspection, we found the clutch fluid low. I topped off the fluid and looked for leaks, but did not find any.

I was not able to do an extensive test drive as the car was not registered, but I did drive it several times up and down our street as we had to replace all of the brakes. I also drove the car in and out of my shop for a couple of days and all the while no leaks from the clutch hydraulics.

The customer picks up the car and drives it home which is at least 20 miles away. The next morning his significant other drove the car and the clutch hydraulics failed. She did not have an accident, but she is so upset she is threatening to sue.

I can not get her to understand that I am not legally responsible as I did not do any repairs to the clutch hydraulics except to top off the clutch fluid. I did not even have to adjust the clutch.

Would I be at fault if the clutch slave pushrod would have broke which is known to also happen without warning?

So please tell me your stories so I can show them.

Thank you,
