Brake light went on 1800

Hello,
I've had a 1973 1800es for about half a year. Last week, when I went to brake, I had to press the pedal in all the way before the brakes really engaged, and my heart skipped a bit. The red parking brake light went on. They've been fine since, but I'm a big believer in always-functioning brakes :)

Advice for what I should look at first? Thanks for any suggestions you can offer,
+scott
