Car dosen't want to go above 2000RPM 200 1986

For awhile now my car has had a dubious idle- the tachometer would drop to zero and the engine wanted to cut out. Starting a few days ago, however, the car hasn't wanted to rev above 2k RPM. Acceleration is accordingly fairly slow.

It seems like it would be an ignition problem- but most of the related symptoms I've seen seem to involve the car randomly dying altogether- which it doesn't do- it just really doesn't want to rev above 2000 RPM- it's pretty consistent in this.

Any ideas of what this could be? I am about to go check the engine codes to see if that returns anything, but I am looking for some insight as to a likely culprit.
