The question is how temporary ... 200 1985

No worries, Art. I meant no disrespect either. I've used plenty of hose clamps when working on engines or home issues, but I'd personally steer clear of them with a running engine. The heater hoses in questions may already be brittle and crack/rip under the pressure of the system where the clamp engages the hose. I'd much prefer a suitably-sized barbed hose plug with the correctly sized hose clamp over it. I believe the internal diameter of those hoses is 5/8" but it's been a while. That stuff can easily be found at a marine store if your local auto parts place doesn't carry those fittings.

The vibration and neglect to check the unorthodox union of the hoses wouldn't be a factor if they were plugged properly and perhaps secured to the motor in a low heat spot (ie: aluminum intake manifold on the 240). Of course, checking the hoses often would be the best insurance.
