94 940T fuel mixture is lean and fan runs at cold start after head gasket job 900 1994

We replaced both temperature sensors ones from a spare engine because the dash gauge never worked right. We fixed the gauge but got this starting issue. Car runs fine once started and can be restarted normally when engine is warm. I bet I swapped some wires or a connection is bad. My dad re-swapped the temp sensors as well.

Maybe the ECU is getting no temperature signal? I don't know what sort of limp mode it goes into when the temp sensor is unplugged. I should find a wiring diagram of the system, that would be the most logical thing to do.

tl;dr just replaced head gasket, fan turns on right away, fuel mixture is lean from cold start; the car thinks the engine is hot.

Has anyone experienced this, or does anyone know what wiring connecting the temperature gauge to the ecu that I may have messed up during the head gasket job?
