Fuel pump relay problem 200 1985

Still having an issue getting my '85 245 to fire up and run. I did install the new ignition switch which seemed to help the car to start a little better, but don't think that was the real problem. Now once I go to turn the key, I can hear the external fuel pump prime, but the issue now seems to be the fuel pump relay chattering away. I re-soldered 2 of them only to find that one of the contacts inside chatters by not maintaining contact like the other contact does. Once in a while, it will make contact, but the engine only starts roughly until that contact opens again and it dies. Bypassing the relay with alligator clips to fuse 4 & 6 is of no help except that the pumps both run, but the engine won't start and run.
Help please with any suggestions.
