Just picked up a relatively nice 240 sedan. It is black over black, automatic, and has about 180k miles. It is in great shape as far as the body and under carriage goes, but it has some things I need to address before I rely on it as a commuter.
- The motor starts OK, but idles very rough, if at all, before it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the gas just a bit to keep it running until it runs for a few minutes, than its smooth. One warmed up, the motor runs smooth and strong, has nice power.
- The cruise control does not work.
- The transmission will not go into overdrive, although the orange arrow on the dash does light up.
- The CEL is on, but the PO said this is because he "unplugged the cold start injector so it would run".
- I believe one of the exhaust hangers is either broken or has come off, there is a thumping sound in the rear over larger bumps, and it almost sounds like something is rubbing at speed.
- The driver' seat needs some attention, the upholstery is in great shape, but I think someone may have somehow raised it for a shorter person because I can barely get behind the wheel and my sight line is through the tinted top of the windshield. I would also love to figure out a way to move the seat back more, I am somewhat tall and have no legroom at all.
- The wipers work, but do not return to the bottom of the windshield. When turned off, the go to the bottom, and then come back up about 4 inches and stop.
I have been lurking the forum here for a while in anticipation of buying a Volvo, so I have seen some suggestions for a few of these issues, but if anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated.
