A/C maintenance R-12 advice needed. 200 1983

Greeting,
On my 1983 240's compressor there are two identical valves side by side
on the front of the compressor. Both have pressure in them (tested). The
receiver/accumulator drier has that small round window (I cannot see anything in the window),
next to this window is the word "IN". I have access to R-12 and a
shop here in town is willing to vacuum my A/C system and put the R-12 in. I just
want to make sure they know what they are doing. Does anyone know which of these
vales is which? And what should I be looking for in the small round window.
