Car turns off 700

A very strange happened to me a couple of times today.

We were driving at around 100 kph and the car shut down. Tach and speedo went to to 0 and no lights came on except for the battery light.

Hit the clutch, battery light went off. Turned key to off and then start and it started and kept on going for about 1 minute. Started again and had no more problems until we got home after about 30 minutes.

I wonder where I am losing all electrical power. Did not look at gas and temp gauges but they probably were down also.
