Volvo 145 Mysterious running trouble. 140-160 1971

Hello Everyone. I need some help from you all regarding my 1971 145S. She has been running poorly since I got her a year ago (did not run when bought) and I have tried near everything! Here's what she does: Starts up nice and quick when cold with a pull of the choke, then will idle down to a (somewhat lumpy) idle when choke is depressed. Go for a drive, accelerates well, shifts well with M40 trans. I pull into a station to get some coffee and turn off the car (15 min). Then all hell breaks loose. Takes about 200 cranks to start hot, then will have either an elevated idle, or a lowered, very crappy one. The car will run like poop as well, not terribly, but just with reduced power and seems to stutter when taking off in first. I have tried 3 different carburetor setups (both HIF and HS) replaced the fuel pump and filter, new plugs, wires, points, rebuilt distributor, upgraded to steel timing gears and new camshaft. all new gaskets around with everything fuel related.
Not sure where else to look. When I removed the old cam, I found that 2 lobes (one for 1st piston and 3rd piston) were worn out badly, so I replaced lifters and pushrods and adjusted valve clearance as well.

She is such an annoying girl, and only has 67k miles! Compression test showed good (140) pressure across all cylinders. Has original head, pistons, exhaust, etc.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
