Volvo 240. 159,000 miles. 1991. Sedan.
Dear Brickboarders,
I am recovering from a twenty-hour drive to Santa Fe (from San Francisco). Some spotty scenery but mostly long stretches of arid flatlands. My own adherence to a 60mph limit didn't help matters.
By now, it is no surprise that my impregnable 240 seamlessly executed this journey.
I did notice one thing though: every time I turned the wheel slightly to the right--to return to the right lane, or for a slight bend in the road--there was a small vibration emanating from what appeared to be either the hub or some neighboring part. It possibly felt like metal on metal, so I tried to limit any slight adjustments to the right. The vibration was tiny but noticeable, more in sound than in feel.
I did see the "Vibration in Front End" in the FAQ (I couldn't find much in Bentley), but was wondering if there is any way to narrow the possible cause, or how I should efficiently diagnose this problem.
Also, I was trying to replace some wheel studs and the rear driver's side rotor was impossible to get off. I removed the caliper, took off the wheel locator index pin, and hit the rotor with a rubber mallet. No luck. Any ideas? Is there something I'm missing?
Replaced the rear shocks with the KYB gas-adjust. They run well, though a little bouncy. Nice to no longer have the rattling shock from a stripped bushing. Took a little longer than expected but as always, next time will be a breeze.
Much thanks,
Jimmy
