Rear Brake Backing (Splash) Plates 900 1993

OK, my parking brake shoes came apart, which explains the noise, not that big a deal, ordered necessary parts. However, I noticed the backing plate or splash shield on one side was rusty. On option is to trim is a bit ~1 inch or so at the bottom to ensure nothing falls off, but my brain says put a new one on.

Well, they don't seem to be available, but found a used one, however, I think you need to pull the rear axle to change. None of my books cover this, and can't find it searching around.

So, do I need to pull the axle shaft and risk the seal leaking (does not leak now) or is there a way to replace without this hassle. Thanks in advance.

Mike
