Dead battery 700

Went out for a short drive,4/5 miles, with A/C on in slow traffic. Came back to the car 2 hours later and battery was completely dead,no crank,no lights on dash. Had jump started came home,tested battery with voltmeter and got a 12.56 v reading. Started the car and in idle reading was 14.1 volts. What could have caused the problem? Any ideas? Someone is telling me that cooling fan could have drained the battery while alternator was undercharging... Could this happened while driving? Tks for yr suggestions!
