960 PCV problem 900 1995

I just replaced the PCV system complete on my 1995 960. While I had the intake manifold off, I cleaned out the EGR passage, there was a lot of gunk. Put everything back together, and the engine purrs. But I still get smoke blowing out of the oil fill and dipstick. Also, code 2-4-1 is set showing a problem with the EGR. Any ideas what is happening? I am especially disappointed that the PCV system is not operating.
