The 544 & 122 have the same size gear shift threads, 3/8-16. I have made many wooden shift knobs on my lathe and really enjoy making them. I even sent Gen. Colin Powell a couple of them , back when he was tinkering with old Volvos. I just got some "Texas mesquite" (very hard) to make some more as time allows. I make threaded metal inserts and epoxy them into the wood, and use a jam-nut underneath to tighten them up. Good luck with your project.
