Well, I've had a few days to cool off since I changed the pump last Saturday.
At 63 years old, I'm getting too old to do that job again....I hope.
I've been owning and driving Volvo cars since I was 17 years old, and I must say that this was the most aggravating job that I've ever performed on a car.
I've pulled and built engines, replaced clutches and transmissions while laying on my back, re-built brakes and I recently completely rebuilt the A/C system on this car.....but this is the first time that I actually cursed the name Volvo.
I've changes several in-tank pumps on the 240 series but I can't remember it being like this.
All of my aggravation has to do with the physical dimensions of the access hole that Volvo provided to access the in-tank fuel pump on my sedan.
If that hole was only 2 inches bigger in both width and length it would make the job 1000% easier.
There is absolutely no reason to prevent it being larger.
If you've ever changed one of these you know what I'm talking about.
Getting the pump/fuel sender unit out of the tank is nearly impossible.
A person needs to be able to contort his body in ways that I haven't been able to in years.
I'm still feeling my age today and can barely get out of my chair.
It will probably take me a week to get over this one.
