clutch problem? 444-544

My 2nd car that I ever drove much was a 1965 PV544,,so many things were wrong w it,in 1973 the clucth pivot point was totally worn &that prevented proper engagement.
I was able to get the rubbr grommet the shaft sat in ..I had it 2 large 1/2 diamer washers welded to a pc of steel..then drilled a 2 holes in them & screwed them to the part projcting from the fire wall,,,WELLAA!! clcth engaged like new!1
