245 AW71 problem 200

Hi All,
It has been a while... My 245 has 303,000 on it. Today I was forced to the edge of a VT dirt road after a storm. the puddle I hit at 15mph had huge pot holes at the bottom that shook the car very hard. At first I was concerned about wheel/strut damage etc. and drove slowly, it seemed OK. But when I got home I noticed that the plastic casing around the transmission selector had broken off (between the gear indicator and the brushes). Then when I placed it in Park I needed to manually disengage the shift lock to move the lever back out of Park.

Most importantly when I turned the car off it wouldn't restart. There is no "click' or anything, which makes me think that something has gone wrong with the 'lockout' device that only lets you start in Park or Neutral.

So please let me know what I should be looking for! Thanks in advance,

Rod
