1800 center bearing replacement. Nut removal. 1800 1973

I need advice on how to remove the nut to the rear of the center bearing drive shaft (1800ES). The book says remove it to get at the center bearing. Does the spline (female end) come out with the nut? Has anyone done this with success? The nut is 1-5/8 " And How much pressure can the drive shaft be given in a vice? The repair manuals I have seem to be very vague with this task.
