Looking at options for the 72 142. I have a good running 1990 740 with an automatic that has achieved parts car status, so I am contemplating how to repurpose the drive train into the 140. I looked at a bunch of threads of guys who did a turbo B230 setup into the 140's, and various others with FI, but those were all very big, high dollar projects which I can not do on this car. I am just looking to have a fun, fairly simple, project for short money because I have these cars. My questions are these:
Can the B230 be mounted in its slanted position in a 142? Or is there a compelling reason to make it straight other than making room for FI intakes or turbo setups? I do have the b20 if I need to swap the pan and oil pump.
What motor mount issues are known for this conversion? I found these online http://yoshifab.com/store/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=101.
I am thinking a carb intake would make sense to make the clearances work, and prevent the fuel injection pumping challenges?
Which carb intakes will work for this application? I see several models available, from b21's to marine engine intakes.
Can the transmission from the 740 be transplanted as well? I understand it may need the tunnel raised, but I could cut out the panel from the 740 if it would work, anyone know? The trans in the 140 has sat still for 30 years as has the motor, so I do not know its condition, but I know the trans in the 740 is good.
Does a b230 bolt up to a BW35 trans?
Thoughts on this swap?
