I'm reading this thread with interest as I too own a 1989 740 GL Sedan. This car has the EZ116K B230F engine, that had ran fine for several years, then of a sudden it stopped.
I'll post a new message with details, but keep this thread open as this is an interesting topic. I'm sure there are many other brick owners with similar issues.
