Intermittent: Press Gas--No Go! 200 1992

Those of you out there who are 'mature' (ie, 'old') enough to remember when cars had carburated engines, will know what I am describing. The rest of you...well, here goes: 1992 240 wagon w/ automatic trans. New battery. Injectors cleaned, sealed and replaced. Idle air control valve cleaned. Flame trap serviced. Vacuum leaks traced and taken care of, as needed. AMM removed, contacts cleaned and scuffed, with whole assembly sprayed with the CRC cleaner (and boy does that stuff work!). Airbox thermostat replaced. New plugs, air filter. All grounds cleaned and supplemented. Fusebox cleaned and new fuses added. Fuel pump relay cleaned, re-soldered and replaced. Pumps working in tandem as required.

Car runs beautifully. Not particularly speedy (and they never were, anyway) but pulls strong, and once up to speed, a good highway cruiser. The perfect car for the Little Princess to get to school and work, as needed.

However, every so often, as I'm driving along (speed doesn't matter--sometimes on the highway, sometimes on the side streets. Straight road. Middle of a turn.) and I press the gas......nothing happens. No more speed. In fact, it's as if the car just 'bogs down'. Like driving a carburated car that's set up way too rich, or the accelerator pump isn't working properly.

To get everything to run again as it should requires that the car be shut down (kind of a trick to do on the highway while one is still humming along at 60 or so) and then started back up. Then everything just resets itself and you continue on. It's happened to me a few times and the Princess a couple of times. She's a little afraid. I'm a little concerned. But I'm a lot stumped. Anyone run into these same symptoms? Ideas?

B
