1990 740 Base Stereo 700

I have a 1990 744 base model with the stereo cassette player, four door speakers, no EQ and no amp.

Today while scavenging on a recently dumped 1990 745 GL (I think - leather seats, stereo has the stock, Volvo-branded EQ unit) I pulled the EQ 611. I asked the lot guy about the cost and that I had no idea if it even worked. He said no one wants stock stereo stuff from him and that I could just take it for free with the stuff I was buying. He warned me that I probably would not be able to use it with an aftermarket head unit.

So now I have this thing with which to plug the ugly "storage cubbie" next to my cigarette lighter.

Questions:

1. If the car's stereo had the stock EQ then it also had the stock amp beneath the steering column, right?

2. Is there a way to use the stock amp, EQ and wiring (possibly spliced into new connectors) with an aftermarket head?

3. If this can be made to work, should I go back and harvest the HU/EQ/amp harness and the amp and bracket?

I do not want booty bass in my nice, dignified car. (I have that in my Jeep. Heh...) I just want something better. My speakers and stereo work but are wimpy. No amp, no EQ, broken cassette player, busted antenna mast plastic "chain" cable. You know - an old, base model, stock stereo.

I recently purchased a new mechless Bluetooth head and four Kicker speakers for the doors. I fixed my antenna mast. I am ready to plug in the head with the adapter plate for the dash and wire it up and then swap out the speakers. This will be pretty much all the power I really want. I just want clarity, so I got good speakers and a good head to help that out.

If I could use the small Volvo amp and the Volvo EQ that fits the dash space perfectly then I would be fine for many years.

Can this be done? I think I can harvest all the remaining stock gear for free or for peanuts. Will it play nice-nice with the new head unit?

Thanks!
