Latch and chime 200 1988

The latch issue, if what I was thinking, would not right itself with wd40. Maybe something else then -- so many variables exist based on its history with the previous owner. Collision work, abuse, poor servicing.

Let's try for the chime, if you haven't ripped it out yet.

In '88 it is configured to let you know you left your keys in the ignition switch and remind you to buckle up.

The way it knows your key is in the switch is based on a part of the ignition switch that can get sticky. This is not a place you should shoot wd40. However, with the door closed, the chime should stop and is not dependent on which key position you have selected.

If you are in the seat belt, with the door closed, does the chime continue past 10 seconds only when turning the key to KP-I or KP-II? Stop if you turn it to KP-0? Does your courtesy light work with the door switch(es)?

If you don't care and wish to remove the chime, it is most easily found by following the steering column just past the ribbed portion, reaching up above the column behind its support bracket, clipped on the brake pedal frame.
