Fender Removal - Head light wiring disconnect 444-544

Attempting to remove front fenders from '63 PV544, but do not see anywhere I can pull the headlamp cable connector out of the inner fender. The plug is larger than the hole. Do I need to pull each wire out of the connector? This may be tricky and could cause damage.

Whats the best way? Cut wires and reconnect with bullet connectors?
