ZF Rack Used Instead Of Cam Gear 200

I have an '84 DL wagon which I assume came from Torslanda with the Cam Gear power rack & pinion steering. My mechanic changed the rack with a ZF unit some 7 years ago. I only recently found this out after going through old repair receipts. A Cardone rebuilt unit was installed, which has given me a fit with all its'leaks. I do not want to just replace the inner and outer tie rods and put new boots on it. Thought you guys could offer some advice. I've had little to no experience with suspension components. Thanks.

Andrew
