1990 740 turbo wheel center cap 700 1990

Good day all,

I recently had some wheel/tire work done (2 wheels). After 100 miles I went to check wheel nuts.

I found a couple of things:

One wheel center cap was loose and was missing the spring. I checked the other and the spring was intact.

I checked on-line for a replacement cap in case I loose one.

Question:

I noticed on the cap with the spring that the spring was inside the cap in a groove inside the fingers.

On line I found the cap but the picture showed the spring on the outside.

By design it seems the spring is supposed to be on the inside.

Is this correct?

Note: this is the 8"-9" or so diameter center cap on a Turbo alloy wheel.

TIA

jimB
