The old "If you don't replace strut mounts they your shock rods can poke through your hood' story. 200

So I'm replacing my shock mounts with this myth in my head and realize it would be really tough for a strut bearing failure to let the shock rods to poke into the hood. Looking at the assembly the shock rods have a shoulder that the top spring mounts sit on. The rods can't poke through unless the spring mounts are severely rusted.
Has anybody been told this?.. or seen a car damaged like this?
