ZF rack steel fluid line replacement 700 1989

For a 740, expect to receive from FCP long line OEM #1387358. Existing line has pinhole about 1" from fitting at rack end so cut line there and removed fitting. Too rotted there to use compression fitting. Not sure if will be able to install line without doing anything to the rack. Hesitant to cut other end to easily remove passenger side fitting until sure can get new one in. May end up cutting new line where can put compression fitting where good piece of existing line. Anyone replaced this line before and any suggestions how to do?
