I encountered the same problem with the bolt on the endlink on my 850. Nut cutters will not work with a flanged bolt! The flange also needs to be cut and a nut cutter will not get enough purchase on it to cut the nut. As it is the flange causes the cutter to be off center and slides off with pressure, you already found that out.

I resorted to a hacksaw and cut on the flange itself. It took me an hour to cut through the entire flange part with very limited space. I remember putting the blade upside down in the saw so that there was enough room to move the blade 3" per stroke. A sawsall would have been nice!!
