89 240 hood pull release malfunction 200 1989

Hello,

This started to happen a month ago. Pull the hood release inside the car on left hand side of drivers side and the hood pops up. But, when pushing the latch lever once outside the hood is not fully released by the inside pull mechanism.

It was so bad today that I had to slyly pull the grill cover off and then hammer a screwdriver onto the ball peen end of the locking mechanism to release it so the hood would open.

Wondering if I should replace the entire pull release cable from the drivers compartment to the front of hood or if its only the spring mechanism in the front of hood that may be faulty.

Also, not sure if this has anything to do with it, but it seems like the hood sits too far up in its closed position by the windshield. It doesn't seem to sit down fully. Maybe the springs by the windshield are shot.
