round tooth square tooth, IPD cam gear. 900

I am replacing the blown motor in my 91 940T with a "new" engine from a 1993/4 940T. I removed the IPD adjustable timing gear (square cut teeth) from the 91, and intalled it on the 93/4 cam nose, and found that I am unable to install the round tooth belt, as the intermediate and crank sprockets on the 93/4 are round tooth. The round tooth belt will not fit over the IPD adjustable cam gear. Can I safely run a square tooth belt on the 93/4 engine with round tooth crank and intermediate sprockets, and the square tooth timing gear?
Thanks!!
JD
