Many years ago one of my front springs broke. So I got a new pair from GCP.SE (iirc). And yes, I discovered that the nice trendy cool looking low ride height my PV featured was more of a result of 40 year old springs settling down gradually. I put the new springs on and suddenly the nose of the car was pointing up in the air like a dog sniffing the breeze.
I could have replaced the rears as well, to complete the tall OEM ride height look, but I'm enough of a cretin to like the lowered look. So I waited for 4 or 5 months to let the new spring sag (if they wanted to), then cut a coil or so off them to get the ride height back down to where I wanted it.
The rear springs are still the original 51 year old things, sagged to perfection. I did replace all the rear bushings with poly a year or two ago, although really the original rubber was still in fine shape. Weathered on the outside exposed edges, still solid and good looking inside. I hadn't really been having any issues with the rear suspension, the new bushings didn't really make much of an improvement. It just seemed like it was time to freshen it up some.
