How extensive was your work?... 200 1989

Ken C,

So this is what I touched.
Odometer: three spots that you talk about, then I touched up the two connections for the thick brown wires, and the connections for the two thin wires, and finally I touched up the three consecutive pin holders, for lack of a better name. These plug into the cluster board. Finally I added more solder to the flat three finger area where the wire plugs into the back of the odometer as they looked worn and the connector was loose, which is not now.

So I touched a lot on the odometer assembly. Need to take a brush to it to clean up the flux better so I can see what is really going on.

Cluster board:
Here I only touched one pin that I could see had a cold solder joint. It is one of the three fingers that plug into the odometer assembly.

The plan for this weekend is to first disconnect the shift up wire and cruise control wire and see if 1) the high beam light works again, and 2) if the odometer starts working again. Yes that's right it stopped again last night.

Depending on the results there I plan to remove the odometer assembly and see what just the cluster board does. Will the cruise control work, will the high beam light work, will the up shift arrow work?

Again, depending on the results will determine how far into the mother board I have to go. Hopefully not to far. The good news is that I have spare parts laying around that I can put in to see if stuff works and the like. The bad part is the time. Have other things lined up and was not planning on doing this, but it must get fixed.

Ugh!

Just shoot me!

Matt
