Can you identify this item? 1800 1972

Recently acquired this 1972 P1800ES. Checked lots of pictures of engine compartments but none of them have this item which seems electrically actuated and has two hoses attached, one of them not connected to anything. Located on the upper right fender well. If you can identify it, what is its purpose?
