considering replacement for 960 S90-V90

If you're mechanically savvy and don't rely much on workshop to repair cars then any car would do. Get the Haynes or something similar manual, get the special tools to repair them and it would be ok.

Given the above condition I would get me an Alfa station wagon something like the 159 Sports version. At least it could make you smile - Cuore Sportivo! Newer Alfa don't have much electrical gremlins as their old counterpart.

For almost trouble free motoring get another Volvo. Newer ones may have issues with their electronic throttle module (ETM). If you're equipped with the necessary tools (Volvo software, a laptop and suitable cable to connect to the ECU) to handle this then I think it would be OK too.

Mind you the Mercedes, Audi and BMW have issues with oil consumption. This is normal for them. Their PCV system are designed with performance in mind. You may have to check your oil every 1000 to 3000 miles.

Mercedes in particular have weird policy in delivering spare parts. Some simple parts such as engine gasket and ignition coils must be replaced as entire module even if only one fails. So this might unnecessarily add to the repair costs.
